Go Totally Wild with WWF http://www.wwf.com.au/ WWF Australia encourages schools to conserve local biodiversity and educate their local community about wildlife conservation. Schools have a chance to win IBM computers and a spot on Network Ten's Totally Wild. This week's featured sites include themes for all year levels, primary and secondary resources. http://www.teachersfirst.com/feature.htm The Virtual Teachers' Lounge is a useful US site for teachers to access. Here is an example for younger students. Elementary Grades: If you've got a blender at home, bring it to school and make smoothies with your students. Smoothies, made with cut up fresh fruit, milk or juice, and yoghurt, are a sure-fire hit with all ages. The youngest students can measure ingredients and slice up bananas or strawberries with a plastic knife. Older students can figure out how to pack the maximum nutrition by selecting different fruits, or different types of liquids. Show them how they can up the protein and calcium by adding a tablespoon of dried milk powder. Knowing how to make a healthy snack on their own is empowering for kids of all ages. Check out our sister site, Meals Matter http://www.mealsmatter.org/ for plenty of other delicious beverage ideas. |
