AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR THE BASIC E-LEARNING TOOL SET

education.au limited, as part of The Le@rning Federation, is pleased to announce the awarding of contracts for the development of the Basic E-Learning Tool Set (BELTS) to two companies: Jacus (http://www.jacus.com.au)) and myinternet (http://www.myinternet.com.au).

Jacus and myinternet were selected because of their expertise in open source software development, and understanding of the education sector and systems. Jacus is providing expertise in software development of the system, while myinternet is providing expertise in user interface design and development.

A website will be released in January 2003 to host the BELTS open source project. This site will enable interested parties to review progress in the continued development of BELTS, download the application, and possibly contribute to future development. A further notice will be made when this site has been commissioned. The Le@rning Federation Schools Online Curriculum Content Initiative is an initiative of the Commonwealth, State and Territory education Ministers and the New Zealand Ministry of Education. They have jointly committed over $73 million over 5 years to generate supportive infrastructure and online content for Australian and New Zealand schools.

education.au limited and Curriculum Corporation, both companies owned by Australia''s education Ministers, are jointly developing the initiative on behalf of the Commonwealth, the States and Territories and New Zealand. education.au limited is responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of the infrastructure, and Curriculum Corporation for the online content development.
